CAS OPPORTUNITY: Dear MPHS Students,
Selwyn's third annual Friday Night Lights will be held on
Friday, October 10th in the Selwyn/AG bus parking lot from
5:00pm - 7:00pm. We will need approximately 20 volunteers
to help with our event. Friday Night Lights is a "tailgate"
Selwyn style party before the MPHS home football game. We
will have dinner from Price's Chicken Coop, enjoy the MPHS
band and cheerleaders, fun activities for the kid's, Sir
Purr and more. You can help us in several ways: set up, food
service, tattoos and hair painting for the kids and clean
up. We hope to finish cleaning up from the event as close
to 7:30pm as possible so you can head over to the football
game. Last year, we had over 700 people attend and fun was
had by all. If you are interested in volunteering on Friday
October 10 from 4:30pm - 7:30pm, please email me by October

Robertson Scholarship: A representative
from the Robertson Scholars Program of Duke University and
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will be
visiting Myers Park High School on Monday, September 8 at
11:00 a.m. in the Art Gallery. The Robertson Scholars
Program transforms students through their immersion in the
intellectual and social life of two dynamic universities and
their exposure to new and challenging environments. The
experiences of being a Robertson Scholar helps students
become thoughtful, creative, lifelong contributors to
society – the kind of citizens and leaders prepared to meet
the unprecedented challenges of our interdependent world.
Although Robertson Scholars all have different backgrounds,
talents and passions, they share three characteristics:
Heart Mind Action These are the three core program values
and qualities. The program selects Scholars who have
demonstrated these qualities and exhibit the potential and
desire to elevate them even further. Seniors may
self-nominate by completing the Supplemental Materials form
available on our Web site to express their interest in the
program and to elaborate on their qualifications through
essays, short answers and letters of recommendation. This
form supplements a student’s application to Duke and/or
UNC-Chapel Hill by providing information specific to the
Robertson Scholars Program’s selection criteria. Although
some candidates may be selected for consideration based on
their application to Duke and/or UNC-Chapel Hill, completing
this form is the only way to ensure that a student’s
material will be reviewed by the Robertson Scholars
Program. The priority deadline for submitting supplemental
materials is December 1, 2008. The Benefits Full tuition,
room and board at UNC-Chapel Hill or Duke Support for three
summers of domestic and international community engagement,
